Welcome to the website of the Italian Union of the Blind and Partially Sighted

The Italian Union of the Blind and Partially Sighted (UICI) is a private body whose statutory objectives, also recognised by Italian law, are the representation and protection of the moral and material interests of the visually impaired at public administrations.

The aim of the Italian Union of the Blind and Partially Sighted is the integration of the visually impaired in society through the achievement of their unity.

In order to reach its objectives, UICI created services to make up for the lack of adequate social service provision by the state and public bodies. These services include the National Talking Book Centre, the Scientific Research Centre, IRIFOR - the Institute for Research, Training and Rehabilitation), the "Le Torri" centre for study and rehabilitation in Tirrenia, UNIVOC (the Italian Union of Volunteers for the Blind) and the most recently established service, ALA (Agency for the Promotion of Employment of the Blind). The Union also established the Italian branch of the International Agency for the Prevention of Blindness.

The Italian Union of the Blind and Partially Sighted participate, as a founding member, in the Federation among the National Associations of Persons with Disabilities (FAND).
